You love the roses - so do I. I wish
They sky would rain down roses, as they rain
From off the shaken bush. Why will it not?
Then all the valley would be pink and white
And soft to tread on. They would fall as light
As feathers, smelling sweet; and it would be
Like sleeping and like waking, all at once!

George Eliot

My Interpretation

This poem really caught my attention. I initially thought that this poem was about roses. When reading closer I saw that it is about roses, but is also about the peace and serenity that the flowers can bring. I really like this poem, especially the last line, "like sleeping and like waking, all at once". This poem shows how getting in touch with nature can help sooth and relax you. The vision I got when reading this poem is similar to the scene off The Wizard of Oz, when they show the field covered in Poppies. I imagine that, but full of roses instead.
